Model Railway Club
RYEVALE HOO
This is my first venture into 'O' gauge modelling; although it is not my first 'O' gauge plan that I have
developed.
My first plan was far too large to fit in my flat; it would not even fit in the Club in which I am a member.
A more realistic plan was needed, and with the help from the owner of my local model shop and Club
members, this current plan was developed.
In 1861 the L.B.S.C.R. opened a branch line from Horsham to Brighton via Christ's Hospital; Southwater;
West Grinstead; Partridge Green; Henfield; Steyning; Bramber; Beeding; Shoreham by Sea; Southwick;
Portslade; Aldrington; Hove and Brighton ( Victoria ).
All the trains on this branch remained steam hauled until 1958 when diesel electric multiple units
(nicknamed Thumpers) were introduced.
Now for the fictional bit. The numerous farms and farming communities that lay to the west of this line were
poorly served by both road and rail, and approached the L.B.S.C.R. to provide a rail connection from either
West Grinstead or Partridge Green to the small town of Ryevale Hoo.
The model represents the village terminus as it was in the late twenties and early thirties, with some of the
old L.B.S.C.R. stock not yet replaced and interspersed with some new S.R. stock.
